18 Week Update!

So, our little baby's brain is growing rapidly. By this stage, all of the major areas have been differentiated. The cortical layers, which govern specific brain functions, are beginning to form. The baby may exhibit signs of a primitive body language in utero, such as recoiling when the needle for the amniocentesis comes too close for comfort. Within the next few weeks, he/she will be able to hear voices outside the womb and respond positively to music or loving words. So, I guess it's time to start fine-tuning our singing and storytelling skills!
Ooops! We've been talking to my belly for the past, oh I don't know, two months...Even though we realized that the ears start moving toward the sides of the head and developing later. hehe Oh well, it's exciting that I'm getting closer to my ultrasound now. My next follow-up is on Dec. 11th so it still feels like it's months away, but it's not too bad. Isn't it funny though, you spend the first half of your pregnancy just trying to find out what you're having and waiting to see changes and anticipating feeling the baby moving in your belly and then that last half of the pregnancy just flies by...Well, that's what I'm hoping for anyway. Although, if this baby wants to arrive just a little bit early, I may be able to still make it to the PBR and my niece & nephew's birthday party. We'll have to see.
