A Weekend to Remember...

Okay, so long story short, Jason & I have been trying to get our credit in order to buy our own house and every time we do what we think is good for our credit (like paying off bills) we end up making our credit worse and having to open more accounts and whatnot to show credit history, so it feels like we're constantly starting at square one. Well we finally have things going in the right direction and it looks like we're only a couple months away from getting a loan! We're hoping and praying and trying to remind ourselves that everything happens in God's time...Well, we decided we needed to get back to church because it just doesn't feel right to ask something from someone if we never communicate with them or even show them we care about them.

So our first Sunday back met the new pastors of the church and after service they came up to tell us they had plan to sponsor two couples from the church for an upcoming couples' retreat and did we want the second sponsorship. Seriously? They'd just met us and we're literally been talking about "never getting away, just the two of us" the day before. So, we made arrangements and accepted the offer.

And let me tell you something, I had no idea what we were in for! Honestly, I thought that despite a few little hiccups here and there and a bumpy start to marriage, we were just going to skate right through the classes and enjoy the weekend. --Some of you might be chuckling at me at this point.-- Well, that was not quite the case.

We did have a great weekend, but there was so learning involved...And I'm talking things I hadn't even considered could be a harmful attitude in my marriage. I think the first night was the hardest for me. We did a project where we had to check mark the things our spouses are good at and what we need work on. Well his list was great...Mine, however, needed some work. I felt terrible. But the next day I learned more about myself and also about Jason. And what we could do to improve everything from our communication to our parenting skills.

I came home feeling closer to God than I have in a long time. And Jason came home more on fire for God than I have ever seen before. He was always good Godly man, but the passion I see in him now is unbelievable!

I'm looking forward to going back in a couple years to see what we still need to work on and how we've changed to better our marriage and our family! If you have the opportunity to attend a Weekend to Remember event, I highly recommend it! Whether you're a Christ follower or not, this will do remarkable things for your marriage! And I know it can be very expensive to some, especially when sponsorship is not available, but it is one of the best investments you can make for your marriage & family!
