This weekend we decided it would be fun to explore some of the local history so we took the boys to the Ag Museum (a second trip for Luke, Brandon, & myself. We went with Tutu the weekend before).
We learned about the history of Nyssa. The German POW camp that was here years ago, some of the local veterans and active duty members, what hospital equipment used to look like. There was a wagon for the kids to climb into, artifacts from earlier settlers to the community, farm equipment, dolls from long ago, what early classrooms looked like. Tons of exciting fun stuff for the boys to learn about.
After we finished at the museum we took the boys to Homedale to see an old WWII Sherman tank that is at the local park. The boys all but climbed inside of it! We tried to look up the tank online but weren't able to really find any information on it. It was still pretty neat to be right next to it and get to see all the little details of something historic like that.
And the finish our little field trip Jason treated the boys to ice cream cones at the Frosty Palace. Brandon got to taste ice cream for the first time and the boys enjoyed the cool down.
Maybe it's just my getting older but it's really fun to just explore the sweet simple things that we take for granted or never knew about. There is so much local history and it's neat for the boys to learn about what life was like before we were alive, or even before we moved to this town. And it's even more exciting that they're thrilled to learn about it in the first place! haha
