We had a great day today, just our little crew. We spent the moment of the day at Home Depot making little wooden lawn mowers and then headed to the park for the Global Village Cultural Festival.
We had a little fun with the photo boards.
Pioneer Village was very cool! We met Abraham Lincoln and got to see the replica gun and little marble bullets from the assassination. We got to see what cotton looked like when he was freshly picked from the fields. And Seb got to put on the cuffs that were used on slaves.
We got to see tons of tools and artifacts from "back in the day" and Seb was our tour guide. Since learning about the Oregon Trail in school he had tons of information and knew about all the different tools for farming and different weapons. What a smart guy!
They had artifacts from the Oregon Trail Short Line so Lucas enjoyed that since he's in love with trains.
There was a Civil War village with a soldier, guns and some big ol' bullets.
The Irish Village was everybody's favorite! This guy was wielding swords and explaining "the difference between slashing and hacking". Don't worry, he only demonstrated the strength of the weapons on a cantaloupe, a pineapple, and a watermelon. He was pretty funny though, and the boys all thought he was pretty cool, so we had to take a picture with him.
We also got to watch some Basque dancing and Hawaiian dancing--one song I recognized from when I was a baby and my mom would play that music through the house...Good times! At the German Village Seb got to learn that German is spoken not only in Germany, but also in Austria and Switzerland. He made an arrowhead necklace at the Native American Village. Seb & Shan made kites at the Japanese Village and paper leis at the Hawaiian Village. Oh, and I almost forgot, they got to draw pictures in charcoal at the Pioneer Village, color on papers of fabric in the African Village, and filled egg shells with confetti in the Mexican Village.
Poor Seb got a sunburn on his neck and Luke spent the day with a fever, Jason & I are recovering from colds but otherwise we all had a great family day. I already told the boys I'm going back to the festival every year from here on, with or without them. haha
